Registrant: Dr. Cindy Hardy (Registrant No. 1345)
Date: December 6, 2019
Status: In Effect
Nature of Action: The Registrant agreed to undertakings under section 36(1)(d) of the Health Professions Act confirming her voluntary agreement not to accept referrals to conduct psychological assessments for family law purposes.
Reason: The Registrant does not ordinarily practice in the area of forensic family law psychology. Despite this, she accepted an engagement to provide an opinion for the court in the context of a family law dispute. The Respondent explained that she believed the family had no other practicable options for alternative services in a remote geographical area to assist in responding to the child’s distress. However, it was the Inquiry Committee’s assessment that the Respondent did not have sufficient familiarity with this area of practice, and that, as a result, the Respondent did not meet the College’s expected standards for practice in this area, including standards for obtaining informed consent from all appropriate persons and for gathering sufficient information before offering an opinion in the context of an engagement of this nature.
